Matthieu Tordeur
Polar Explorer
Matthieu Tordeur is a record-breaking explorer and member of the French Explorers' Society. He has led expeditions in over 100 countries, crossing deserts, oceans, mountains, and polar regions.
He circumnavigated the globe in a 4L car to promote microfinance, ran six consecutive marathons in the Sahara Desert, cycled across Europe twice, and sailed across the Atlantic. In 2019, he became the first French —and the youngest in the world— to ski to the South Pole solo and unsupported (Guinness World Records).
A committed advocate for climate action, Matthieu has served as spokesperson for the Cryosphere Pavilion at the United Nations Ocean Conference in 2025. He has led several educational expeditions in the Alps, the Pamirs, Greenland, and Antarctica.
As a passionate communicator, he regularly speaks at schools, companies, and international conferences to share his field experiences, raise awareness of glaciers and polar regions, and explain their critical role in life and Earth's climate.
As the founder of the 90° SUD Association, he works alongside the scientific community to collect data, raise awareness, and drive meaningful change.
Matthieu is the author of Le Continent blanc and 4L, Un tour du monde du microcrédit, and has produced several documentaries for Ushuaïa TV. He holds degrees from King's College London and Sciences Po Paris, and serves on the boards of the Témoins Polaires and Paul-Émile Victor foundations.
He currently leads Under Antarctica, a three-month kite-ski expedition across Antarctica, aimed at studying ancient and recent ice layers to better predict the continent's future contribution to sea-level rise.
